Clinical study

What will happen during the study?

The study evaluates the changes in your blood constituents that occur over multiple years of time and correlates the findings with corresponding changes in your health status.

Therefore, when you visit the investigation center, you are requested to fill out a health questionnaire and to check your health state, additional tests will be performed: your body composition will be assessed (via bioimpedance analysis, waist circumference and BMI), your blood pressure will be measured, a resting ECG is performed, and blood and urine samples will be collected for laboratory tests. In addition, blood samples are also collected to test your infrared molecular fingerprint, which is a high-resolution analysis of your blood constituents.

The first 4 visits will typically occur with monthly frequency.

Following your fourth visit, a medical examination is performed with supplementary imaging tests, including a low-dose chest CT and a coronary artery calcium scoring test, to exclude the presence of tumors and make further adjustments to your risk-level.

The fifth and all subsequent visits will happen on an annual basis, but you should expect the same thoroughness as before: all tests, you had during your first visit, will be performed each time.

Finally, the medical examination with the additional imaging tests, will be repeated 5 years after the earlier detailed examination.

Who is eligible to donate blood for the H4H Program?
For the high-risk study arm, we seek voluntary blood donors over 50 years who take antihypertensive medications to control their blood pressure, have high cholesterol levels, take lipid-lowering therapy, and are active smokers or have a significant smoking history. But they do not suffer from severe cardiovascular or cancer diseases. For details, please check with one of our collaborating institutions. Please find the list of these institutions under the Become a volunteer menu on a map. In the low-risk study arm, we involved voluntary blood donors over 40 years of age who are free of malignant disease. If you have a mild, well-controlled primary disorder other than cancer (e.g., cardiovascular disease, diabetes, allergies, asthma, etc.), you are eligible to take part. The enrollment to the low-risk cohort of the H4H Program is currently on hold.
How can I participate in the H4H Program?
An essential part of the research is the collection of blood samples from healthy individuals voluntarily to establish the reference range of the data measured by our new approach (involving laser technology) to describe differences between individuals as well as changes within an individual over time. Currently, the high-risk arm is under recruitment. Therefore, we will be pleased if you donate blood samples over a few years for our study. This way, we will be able to examine the health changes within a person. You can donate blood at one of our collaborating institutions. Please find the list of these institutions under the Become a volunteer menu on a map. Inclusion into the low-risk study arm of the H4H Program is on hold.
